Rekey & lock change
Rekey & Lock Change Service in Edmond, OK
Just bought a house? Lost a key? Roommate moved out on bad terms? You probably don’t need new locks. You need the old keys to stop working, and that’s exactly what a rekey does.
Rekey vs. replace
Which one do you actually need?
Rekeying changes the pins inside your existing lock so it works with a new key. The old keys stop working, the hardware stays on the door, and the cost is usually much lower than buying new locks.
Replacing makes more sense when the lock is worn out, damaged, low quality to begin with, or you want a different look or feature, like a smart lock or a higher security grade. We’ll tell you which one fits, even when the answer is the cheaper option.

Why rekeying after a move matters
The keys you get at closing are rarely all the keys that exist. Builders, previous owners, their relatives, cleaners, pet sitters and agents may all have had one at some point. You don’t know them, and you shouldn’t have to wonder.
A rekey on every exterior door, including the door from the garage, fixes that in one visit.
One key for the whole house
If the front door, back door and garage entry each need a different key, we can usually key them alike so a single key opens all of them. It’s a small change that makes daily life easier, and one of the most common requests we get.

FAQ
Rekeying questions
Straight answers to the things we hear most on the phone. Don’t see yours? Call and ask.
How long does rekeying take?
Most locks take a few minutes each once we’re on site. A typical house with three or four exterior doors is done in one short visit.
Is rekeying as secure as new locks?
Rekeying makes the old keys useless, which solves the main problem. It doesn’t upgrade the lock itself, so if your hardware is cheap or worn out, we may suggest replacing it.
Can every lock be rekeyed?
Most residential pin tumbler locks can. Some very cheap locks and some smart locks either can’t be rekeyed or aren’t worth it, and we’ll tell you if that’s the case.
Do I get new keys?
Yes. We cut new keys for every rekeyed lock. Tell us how many copies you want and we make them on the spot.
